This was the tenth Brickworld held in the Chicagoland area and the biggest thus far. The 100,000 Square feet main hall was an enormous space to fill, but this event pulled it off! The layout of the hall was well planned with clean wide isles running front to back with displays and a ribbon of vendors across the center of the hall running left to right. The convention facility and hotel were exceptional! The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center was very clean, well laid out and had a great staff, definitely world class site for this event.
Public attendance was exceptional this year, with crowds of people two or three deep around the layout and displays both days. The official public attendance per the Brickworld staff was over 25,000 for the weekend! There were reports of long waits for the public to get into the show Saturday morning, due to the overwhelming demand to see the show, but still less stressful than your average theme park outing with many long line to wait in all day long.
GFLUG had a modest display island at this year's event, consisting of three areas. A town/train layout, a race track and sci-fi mosaics. The town/train layout feature two running train loops with a modular town building down the center, with a circus and drive-in at one end. The race track display at the other end of the tables feature many of the new Race theme sets. And the sci-fi mosaics display featured a Darth Vader art work, the 501st logo and first time seen Marvel and DC United heads. The fun thing about this display is, it was all transported inside of one Chevrolet HHR from Florida!
